At Union School of Theology, we are committed to raising up leaders for the worldwide Church. We offer an academically robust theological education as well as deep character formation, working in tailored partnerships with local churches. This means our courses (on campus and in Learning Communities) aren’t ‘off the peg’, and our students aren’t merely ‘customers’. We nurture ministry-long relationships with our students, equipping them to plant churches, resources their congregations, and go on to raise new leaders themselves. Because of this we want to help them fundraise for their academic and living costs, supporting them from day one of their time with us. Below we’re highlighting one of our students and their story. Would you consider investing in growing a leader in Christ’s Church?

My name is Nathan Fellingham. I have been involved in Christian ministry since I was 17, with a key focus on writing songs for the church to sing in corporate worship. I have always felt a strong call to write songs which will build up the church and have sought to be both musically excellent and theologically robust in this endeavour. Pursuing this well will be a lifelong task, but I’ve been blessed to see come of my songs regularly used by churches across the UK and beyond, including ‘There is a day’ and ‘Holy Holy’ (Lift Up His Name).

I also work alongside my wife Lou in leading corporate sung worship times both in our home church (Emmanuel Brighton) and conferences and events hosted by various churches, charities and church networks. This also at times involves teaching on both the practical and theological aspects of worship.

In recent years I have felt called to be more deliberate in pursuing theological training. I believe the Bible teaches us that songs and hymns are supposed to play a specific part in helping to teach people the truths of the Christian faith as well as being tools for expressing worship and devotion to God. There is a weight of responsibility which I want to take this seriously, both in the songs I write and in helping and mentoring other songwriters too.

I have recently completed a 2 year part time diploma with Union School of Theology which has led me now to beginning a masters course, also with Union Theology. This will be 3 years, part time, and will include modules on the Doctrine of Scripture, New Testament Greek, popular culture and more! There will also be a dissertation in the third year.

The course will obviously take up considerable time and energy and will require resources for the course fees as well as books and travel costs. I am wanting to reach out to friends, church family and indeed anyone else who may be willing to help support me on this venture. Your prayers for grace in juggling the course with ongoing work commitments, ministry and family life are very much appreciated! But also if you were willing to contribute financially, in some way, that would be a huge blessing to us. We need to raise around £9,000 to cover all the fees and necessary expenses.
