Union School of Theology is delighted to announce the appointment of Rev Jonathan Thomas of Cornerstone Evangelical Church in Abergavenny, as Pastoral Dean. We are thrilled that Jonathan will be joining the Faculty in September 2018. He brings a wealth of pastoral experience as well as theological wisdom to this important strategic role overseeing and modelling pastoral care within our School community.

Jonathan will be coming to the role as a practitioner, combining his role as Pastoral Dean with continuing to serve as Pastor of Cornerstone. We believe that this will enable Jonathan to enhance the student community at Bryntirion as well as in our Learning Communities.

Jonathan said, ‘As someone who has benefited greatly from Union over the years, it is a true joy and privilege to join the team. The generosity and vision of my church to support me in this has encouraged me greatly. I look forward to walking alongside the students and serving them as they prepare for mission and ministry.’

Our President, Michael Reeves said, ‘This is a strategic appointment for Union. Jonathan is just the kind of man we want to have shaping the hearts and lives of our students: he loves Christ and his Church, and sees the importance of theology in forming leaders for healthy mission and ministry. It is also a wonderful development for the church in Wales, as a well-loved pastor and leader joins our team to help us raise more leaders.'

Our Provost, Ian Shaw said, ‘Jonathan combines pastoral experience, a passion for training and mentoring future leaders, and a desire that churches be led by pastors who have a theologically well-formed mind and the heart of the shepherd. We are excited to welcome him as part of the gifted team at Union School of Theology.’
