Communications and Development Officer

Responsible to: the Executive Director. 

Salary: £20,000 full-time, permanent following a probationary period of 6 months.

Deadline for applications is August 31st 2018.

Role Summary: This role has two main focuses in the area of development: recruiting students for Union School of Theology and working under the Executive Director on communications, marketing and fundraising support for the charity. The post holder will also act as assistant to the Executive Director and will be based at the campus in Bridgend. 


  • To assist the Executive Director in the area of communications, development and other related tasks. Assist in conveying Union’s internal and external messages.
  • To work creatively to drive student recruitment and in consultation with the Provost ensure that students are being recruited in accordance to the school’s admissions policies.
  • Helping to manage the marketing and branding of Union across the four platforms.
  • Composing and editing blog posts, newsletters, emails, articles.
  • Managing Union’s Social media output.
  • To provide fundraising support to the Executive Director with major donors, legacies and regular giving.  Duties may involve report writing, looking after fundraising databases, composing supporter newsletters and correspondence and maintaining links with existing supporters.
  • Assisting the Executive Director on managing new and existing projects.
  • To represent Union, as appropriate and in consultation with the Executive Director at regional, national, and international events.
  • Actively promote Union’s ministry and values as strategically established by the President and Board of Union with commitment and enthusiasm.

Qualities, Experience & Skills

  • A genuine occupation requirement is for the person to be a committed Christian in regular attendance of a local church.
  • Agreement with Union’s doctrinal basis.
  • Self-motivated person with good interpersonal skills
  • Well organised and can work to targets
  • Excellent written and spoken English is essential.
  • Good communication skills and ability to learn Union’s tone of voice
  • IT literate, with expertise is using Social media.
  • Marketing / communications qualifications and experience preferred.
  • Relational operative comfortable working with teammates and volunteers while also being a proactive self-starter.
  • Organised, energetic, flexible, detail-oriented, and computer proficient.
