Growing Leaders, Growing Churches

Union is a movement of planters, churches, pastors, mentors, scholars and donors, all working to see reformation in Christ’s church worldwide. We do this primarily through our four ministry streams: School, Research, Publishing, and Mission. See for more on the four streams.

Our ministry started life in the wake of the Welsh Revival of 1905 as a theological training institute. In 2016, Michael Reeves took leadership of the work, broadening and reshaping it into Union. Our renewed vision, mission and strategy are a response to the challenges facing the global church today. We long to see reformation and revival again, as we raise, deploy, and support well-formed, godly leaders for healthy, growing churches.

Union in action

Doug Clark is a Union School of Theology graduate and church planter in Halifax, UK. He writes,

“Although there are a few gospel churches in Halifax, there are specific parts of the town that have had no gospel outreach for the last 50 years.”

“In our community in North Halifax, 40% of households don’t have access to any transport and 36% of children live in poverty. That means people won’t travel for church and the only way to reach them is to be in the community itself. So, with financial support through Union Foundation, we’ve planted Hope Church in North Halifax. God has been so kind, and wonderfully the church is growing but given the demographic of our area we know our financial situation is unlikely to be robust for some time. The finances we received through Union have been vital because it’s meant that as a new church we’ve had solidity, and our presence in the community has been consistent week to week.”

Our Doctrinal Beliefs

We accept the Holy Scriptures, as originally given, as the inspired, infallible and inerrant word of God. Recognising them as our sole authority in all matters of faith and practice, we believe the doctrines taught therein. In particular we believe:

  • in the only true and living God, the Holy Trinity of Divine Persons in perfect unity, immutable, co-equal, co-eternal, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and sovereign in creation, providence and redemption.
  • in the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is holy, righteous, full of grace and love. In His infinite love He sent forth the Son, that the world through Him might be saved.
  • in the Lord Jesus Christ, the only incarnate Son of God, born of the Virgin Mary, conceived by the Holy Spirit, in consequence of which His manhood was real and sinless, and His teaching free from error; that by His death on the Cross He made substitutionary atonement and a perfect offering for our sins; that He triumphed over death, sin and Satan; that He rose bodily from the grave, ascended into heaven, where He now sits at the right hand of God.
  • in the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Godhead, and the Agent of regeneration, by whom men are brought to conviction, repentance, and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and who indwells the believer for sanctification. The Holy Spirit guides the worship and ministry of the Church, and empowers its life and witness.
  • that as a result of the Fall human nature became guilty and depraved, so that all men are subject to the penalty which, in His wrath, God has decreed against sin. Notwithstanding, those who remain impenitent are fully responsible for their wilful continuance in sin and unbelief.
  • that through faith alone in the Lord Jesus Christ, and on the basis of His death, sinners are freely justified by God, who forgives all their sins as they are reckoned to Christ, whose righteousness is reckoned to them. Salvation is therefore by grace, and not by human merit or work.
  • that those who are chosen by God the Father and redeemed by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ and sanctified by the Holy Spirit are members of the universal Church, the body of which Christ is the head. This Church finds visible expression in local churches, each of whom should manifest union with Christ in preserving purity of life and doctrine, avoiding schism and heresy.
  • that the Lord Jesus Christ will return visibly, and personally in power and glory. That there is to be a resurrection and final judgment of all men, issuing in eternal blessedness for believers and eternal punishment for the wicked.
